Substance abuse may start out as a choice, but with continued use will turn into an addiction.  It destroys lives, both the ones who use and their families.  It is one of the most difficult conditions to recover from, sometimes taking years.  The recovery becomes a lifestyle change that lasts the rest of the user’s life because relapse is always looming.

Addiction has been determined to be a disease. (see below). It affects the body, mind and soul.  It changes the way the brain functions and can cause psychosis.  It changes a person’s behavior and how a person views their world.  Life is distorted and nothing matters to an addict more than their drug.  Alcohol, illicit drugs, prescription drugs and sometimes over the counter drugs all can turn into an addiction.

Knowing this is enough to think twice about ever starting.

Do you really need to experience this?
